Byron Rushing, Planner

Cycling is a great way to travel -- quick, healthy, social, and contemplative. I grew up in a small town at the heart of a very big city and my early joys of cycling and walking have spurred me through my studies of local politics, human geography, urban planning, and environmental protection. When I'm not riding my bike in the city, I'm either riding it in the countryside or making stuff with my hands, drinking coffee, fishing, camping, reading, and contemplating. Alta is a great company and I really enjoy working for a firm that takes cycling seriously.

Byron Rushing joined Alta during the fall of 2007. Mr. Rushing has a broad range of skills in urban planning, environmental protection, and community development. He has experience working on a range of GIS projects as well. His professional experience has spanned economic development, environmental protection, bicycle and pedestrian transportation, and community development around the City of Atlanta metropolitan area as well as the southeast region.

Before joining Alta, Mr. Rushing worked for several small planning firms in Atlanta specializing in community development, transportation, public involvement, and GIS mapping. He also worked with the Georgia Conservancy and Georgia Environmental Protection Division as a policy analyst on a range of environmental protection and urban development issues. While studying at Georgia Tech, Mr. Rushing was voted student of the year and developed a range of projects focusing on greenspaces, environmental protection, and urban development. Mr. Rushing serves on the board of directors for the Atlanta Bicycling Campaign.
