Engineering Associate – Troy (Albany), New York

Alta Planning + Design is seeking an experienced transportation/civil engineer to join our team as we begin work on a high-profile, multi-year project in New York state as well other important projects throughout the Northeast. Our work is fast paced and requires developing creative, technical solutions and facilitating consensus building activities.

Our project leaders build strong partnerships with clients and are immersed in a project from beginning to end. This requires developing trust from the outset of a project and continuing to build throughout and even beyond a project’s lifespan.

You will contribute to the production of high-quality, accurate and complete design documents, reports and analyses for this key project. You will help lead a team of professionals from Alta’s integrated team of planners, designers, and engineers and work closely with government officials and contractors to see this project to its completion.

The ideal candidate for this key role should have at least eight (8) years as an engineer and have knowledge of, and interest in, the field of active transportation, as well as a solid understanding of the engineering process particular as it relates to transportation.  Possession of a New York State Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is highly desirable.

The Engineering Associate should have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; have worked for at least eight (8) years as a transportation engineer in a consulting environment or public entity, and have three (3) years of project management experience, with experience preparing plans, specifications, and estimates. An in-depth knowledge of NACTO, MUTCD, ADA and various DOT design requirements, and are proficient in MS Excel, Word, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Synchro/SimTraffic or similar will also be needed to be successful in this role.
