I grew up in the suburbs without a car, but as soon as I moved to a community where walking, biking, and taking transit were viable options for getting around, my life changed. It brought me freedom! I believe it is very important for everyone to have transportation options, and I feel inspired to help communities plan and design their streets with this in mind.
Maggie Melin is a planner at Alta Planning + Design, assisting with Safe Routes to School programming. Maggie began working in the bicycle and pedestrian industry in 2012. Her work has included a focus on individualized marketing programs, GIS map making, and bike/pedestrian research and analysis.
Prior to her work in bicycle and pedestrian planning and programming, Maggie received two Masters degrees, one in urban planning from the University of Virginia and one in sustainability science with a focus on behavior change from Lund University in Sweden.
