Creating a Healthier, More Livable Denton >> Visioning Charrette this Week

Baltimore, MD – Consultants from Alta Planning + Design will be conducting a visioning charrette June 10-12 in Denton, MD to reimagine the town and enhance livability. Victor Stanley, a worldwide leader in site furnishings with a local production center in Denton, is hosting the event. The consultant team from Alta Planning +Design’s Placemaking Studio and representatives from Victor Stanley will be providing their services on a pro-bono basis.

Wednesday will kick off with a tour guided by Denton Mayor Abigail McNinch. Following the tour, the consultant team will conduct an analysis of the town — examining circulation patterns, opportunities for pedestrian and bicycle safety, inventory of key destinations, connectivity challenges, and potential for enhancing the environment to reflect the unique history and character of Denton.

On Thursday, the team will be walking throughout the community, intercepting business owners, residents, and visitors to answer three questions: What makes this community unique? What should we celebrate and preserve about the area? What are key challenges for the community? After speaking with stakeholders, Alta’s team will be in the Town Hall reviewing past planning efforts, cross referencing field analysis, and conducting a charrette to develop design ideas for the community.

Friday will be a period of refinement and revisiting field locations to verify the feasibility of recommendations. The team plans to have images and ideas available for public review at Friday night’s Denton Cruise In on Market Street. Citizens and visitors are welcome to visit the team to provide feedback. At the end of the night, drawings, plans, and ideas will be given to the Town for use in future planning efforts.

“We are looking forward to giving back to the community,” says Stan Skalka founder of Victor Stanley. “We are happy to partner with our friends at Alta to create a healthier community for Denton and look forward to the recommendations and future changes that will draw more people to live and visit this beautiful community on the Eastern Shore.”

Alta’s Placemaking Studio is led by Past President of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), Tom Tavella, FASLA, LEED-AP, PLA along with designers Blake Sanders, PLA, ASLA, Melissa Miklus, ASLA, Katie Lloyd, ASLA, and Nick Martinazzi, Student ASLA.
