Our people make the difference.

Kate Whitfield, P.Eng., MCIP, RPP

Kate is both a Professional Engineer and a Registered Professional Planner. She brings the language of planning together with that of engineering. As a trained Project Manager, Kate has led projects from the functional planning stage, through detailed design and construction with a particular emphasis on implementation. Kate’s background includes an engineering degree from the University of New Brunswick and a Master’s of Urban and Regional Planning from Queen’s University. Her volunteer work with the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals and her active role within Alta contributes to her ability to communicate and implement leading edge information in the field of multimodal transportation systems. Kate combines a strong technical base with public speaking skills, helping to create an open and accessible approach to public consultation and stakeholder involvement. Kate manages Alta’s Canadian operations from Ottawa.

“My favourite thing to do through my work is to help represent walking and bicycling as a viable, valuable, and enjoyable part of regular, everyday life. The added joy of a cargo bike ride with my kids is what brings life to what can be a mundane, daily action known as a commute.”
