I can trace my passion for active transportation and urban issues back to when I was a young skateboarder in suburban Florida. In the summers, I would spend 10 hours a day pushing my way between a handful of dispersed spots while dodging cars and busted sidewalks. Over time, I saw the city in a whole new light. I learned to analyze the form and materiality of street elements and public spaces, build mental maps of my community, and think critically about a person’s right to the city. Now as a planner, I want to share some of this perspective and help bring more exploration, play, spontaneity, and joy to how people move around in, and interact with, their community.
