The City of Vancouver created "Destination Downtown" to help downtown Vancouver employers, workers, businesses, and business patrons explore downtown and try new ways of getting here and getting around.

Alta designed and is implementing an employer transportation demand management program called Destination Downtown for all downtown employees in Vancouver, Washington. The program offers free transportation materials and services, and encourages employees to commute by foot, bike, carpool, and transit. Employees are rewarded when they register for the program and achieve specific milestones, such as logging ten commute trips not taken by driving alone. The project team has hosted a series of successful outreach events including a bicycle scavenger hunt, a mural tour walk, and a wet-weather biking workshop.

Through branded commute information, trip tracking and rewards, encouraging events, and ongoing messaging, Destination Downtown has engaged 500 employers and over 1,500 residents and employees. Participants have reduced their drive-alone commute trip mode share by an average of eight percentage points.
